So yesterday at school there was a special assembly. Part of this was handing out an award to one boy and girl in each class. I am not sure what the award was called as I don't follow those things too closely but it had something to do with the child that best "exemplified" the virtues the entire school has been studying on a monthly basis this year.
None of my children received this award. Now I didn't really expect it, because although all my kids are good kids,I know they are no angels, my boys especially. I am not sure what reaction was more disturbing, though. My daughter crying because she didn't get anything or my boys lack of disappointment.
I guess it must come down to parenting. It must have something to do with all the times I have taken away desert in the morning and then forgot by dinnertime. Or maybe the infrequent curse word uttered when I find my dog has vomited in seven to eight separate locations on the carpet. (Alright I'm not going to lie, it's frequent). And sometimes I need a glass of wine just to make it through their homework. Or maybe it was those times of dispair when I have uttered "I'm running away" under my breath.
Too add insult to injury for inferior parents such as myself, there were actually families where more than one of their children won this illustrious prize.
O.K. now they are just trying to make the rest of us look bad!
